I’ve written about this in another blog post. When you ask how someone is doing, or wish then a good day, and they don’t respond with anything other than the self absorbed “I’m good” or “Thanks”. No asking you if you’re good, or wishing you a good day too. Grrrrr!!!!

This is a big pet peeve of mine! It’s just plain rude!! It happened again today with someone I know. Someone that always does this. But today, instead of just getting bugged by it, after he answered my How are you? inquiry with I’m good and then kept walking, I said (purposefully loud enough to be heard) “I’m good too. Thanks for not even bothering to ask.” He tried to claim he had asked, but I called him out on that, telling him that no, he had not, and that he never does.

Did I embarrass him? I sure hope so! If you’re an adult and you don’t know how to interact without being rude, you should be embarrassed.

I’m sure going forward he will ask me how I am. Honestly, I don’t care if he knows how I’m doing. But common courtesy, common social norms matter! This trend against “political correctness” or “common decency” or away from social etiquette has to stop! If I ask how you are, ask how I am too!

Ok, rant over. Back to your regularly scheduled life.
